The bonks combined with the whistles and chatter form the bellbird's song. It is one of the only sub-oscines known to learn its song. Excellent info on this bird in Ch 2 of the Singing Life of Birds by Don Kroodsma. Song often does say both "I am here" and "this is my territory", but in terms of meanings, we've barely scratched the surface.

Tropical birds are the best. The bellbird is from the cotinga family; which consists of around ninety species and just might be the most varied group of birds in the world.
