Its never easy losing someone you care about. Animal or human. Especially if you never got the chance to say goodbye. Its something I too know all to well. Time may not always completely heal all wounds, but it will eventually make it so it is no longer as painful...most days.
All you can do is hold them in your heart and try and remember the good memories and the happiness they brought to your life. Even if just for a minute.
