Richie Benaud recalls first meeting with Frank Tyson;
Franks 2nd first class match was against the Australians in 1953. Richie Benaud was told the unknown Tyson was fresh out of Durham University who would give them no trouble. They began to revise this opinion when they saw the wicket-keeper take position halfway to the boundary & young Tyson walked over to the sightscreen to begin his run up !
Frank's first ball ricocheted off the edge of McDonald's bat to the boundary, his second trapped him lbw before he'd played a stroke, third bounced past Graeme Hole's nose, fourth a yorker that clean bowled Hole & sent his stumps cartwheeling over the wicket-keeper's head.
I don't envy them, with or without "modern" padding, helmets, etc.
Chucking is when you bend your elbow at delivery - watch at 0.07 that is as straight an elbow as ever. How come I never see him DELIVERY a bowl. Is this the only footage of him - that is all that I ever see.

RIchie Benaud said that Tyson was the fastest bowler he ever saw.

And does anybody have any videos of the West Indian Roy Gilchrist? Wesley Hall rates him as the fastest ever.

This is clearly a slowed up video. Does anybody know by how much?
And see how fast the ball travels even in this slow video!
If Jeff Thomson's action is called slingshot, Tyson's should be called "gunshot'!!

That is SOME bowling action ! No wonder he was injured so much. Just about everything put into that delivery.

The bowling arm is straight on delivery. Also, as long as the bowling arm remains above parallel, he is not chucking.
