i feel like the ppl with the talent were Jonas and Jamin, Jemina's a great frontwoman, but really she can't write songs with much substance or girth to them. her solo stuff is like miley cyrus on yoko ono full-tilt, which i love and everything, but John's just indulging her, her fanbase might dwindle if she keeps up the 60s Ronnettes-by-way-of-joan jett thing going on for too many more albums

and P.S. i know john didnt write any lyrics for Get Awkward because I am an actual fan of the band and can listen to/read interviews and read liner notes, like an intelligent music listener.

....But John and Jemina formed this new working relationship where she became the master songwriter. In an interview I remember Jonas saying something like she wanted to sing about what's important to her, and therefore wrote a lot of the songs. I don't dislike the direction Jemina and John went on (including all of the new work on her solo album), but I don't think it was keeping in line with byop. I saw them two months before the split, and you could tell the band wasn't doing too well.

I feel like there were a lot of inner rifts between Jamin/Jemina/Jonas. While talented, I think Jemina can be kind of overbearing/controlling. The sound changed entirely after Jamin left. Partially due to the fact that they actually had to write new material for this record, whereas before they were basically rerecording old songs........

what. the fuck. are you talking about? Jamin LEFT the band. John had very little to do with the actual lyrics of the songs, therefore i dont know how you would associate him with "Becky". and in case you guys didnt notice..even on the self titled (which was NOT their first release..btw, but the record i assume you guys are talking about) the lyrics werent exactly about world issues and astro physics. Bands chance their sound, thats how it goes. Get over it.
