Critters are directly spawned from the Gremlins mania in the '80 like some other movies.

You can see how it is inspired. Even some music is inspired, like at 0:34 the sound sample is almost the same at the one in Gremlins 2 theme song.

when I was a kid I used to confuse the Critters with the Gremlins, although i think the Criters are a bit more flesh eater and the Gremlins more crazy lol, but yet both are awesome XD
