I got a friend of mine to restore this old black and white photo of LBSCR E2 number 109, depicted as BR number 32109, working at Southampton Docks in 1960, the final place of work for 7 of the original 10 strong class, including my personal favourite member! ^^
Leo (32109) arrived at Southampton Docks from Dover Harbour in 1955, along with six of his brothers after being displaced from main depots like Stuart's Lane in London following the introduction of the class 08 and 07 diesel shunters, the latter of which would eventually replace the class as a whole.
Leo was the last E2 to leave Southampton Docks in 1963, following boiler failure. Due to his condition and age, he was withdrawn and away to Eastleigh Works on April 3oth 1963, under his own steam. He was cut up on arrival, some of his parts taken as spares for the few surviving tank engines on left on the Southern region.
He was closely followed by E2 number 32104, the youngest of the earlier batch of five E2 locomotives ordered back in 1913, the following day, rendering the class extinct.
Drawings and measurements were taken from 32104 for Hornby's OO scale model E2 and triang varients, later to become the basis of Hornby's Thomas the Tank Engine model.

@Nictrain123 the parts get shipped off to a scrap dealer who sells them on to smelters
they get melted down and recycled into new metal products
