Isn't it nice when things are simple, and just make sense?

This new video, produced with visualisation experts See What You Mean, sets out how the tax system understates how much we're really paying, in Income Tax and Employees' National Insurance - even before we get onto Employers' National Insurance which also depresses your wages.

  • having paid tax and N I for 47 years whilst working, us retirees still pay tax but not N I this idea is not so good for pensioners potentialy 12% extra

  • If you really do want to be honest, almost all discretionary spending incurs VAT, so the rates would be 52%, 62%, 72%.

Then the government would have to admit we are one of the highest taxed nations, with the worst services. And how would they get elected then?

  • If only it *was* so simple: if you really wanted to 'call it what it is', then National Insurance should be called 'Employment Tax', far more iniquitous than Income Tax.
