I watched yesterday a long documentary about this author's concepts about Louisiane, USA and humanity history ans was very impressed by his ideas and his behaviour. Have to confess I never read him but I shall do. He explains the taste of american public for black dark stories and the role of artists in society with great pertinence and seems to be a pleasant man full of compassion lucidity and humour. I like the complicity and modesty he has at the end of this vid !

The first book of JLB's that I read was Jolie Blon's Bounce & I had to constantly look up words & food like beignets & po-boy as I didn't know what they were. After that I devoured all of his books. His writing is superb & at times poetic, he's a complete original. It upsets me that he isn't more popular in Britain because in my opinion he's the best thriller writer around

I enjoyed getting a glimpse of the person I refer to as "my favorite living writer." I especially love the proud father-type comment at the end referring to his interviewer and daughter, Alafair (who is, by the way, a gifted writer with a distinct style). Rain Gods will be my reward at term break in 2 weeks, and I'm eager to read 212, Alafair's next book, when it comes out.

How great to see Jim looking relaxed and healthy on vacation! Thrilled to know that a new Dave book is around the corner. Am deep in the middle of Rain Gods right now and recommend it as one of Jim's best.
