Another McCain Foreign Policy Error

Asked if he'd divert troops from Iraq to Afghanistan to keep his promise to chase bin Laden "to the gates of hell." No, McCain said, unless Gen. Petraeus said it was necessary. But as the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, General Petraeus would not be making that decision. That would be the responsibility of Lieutenant General Martin Dempsey, who temporarily replaced Admiral William Fallon as chief of Centcom when Admiral Fallon retired in March.

The "Army Times" corrects McCain:

"Petraeus, however, made clear last week that he has nothing to do with the decision. Testifying last week before 4 congressional committees, including the Senate Armed Services Committee on which McCain is the ranking Republican, Petraeus said the decision about whether troops could be shifted from Iraq to Afghanistan was not his responsibility because his portfolio is limited to the multi-national force in Iraq."
