this is really great man. I make a habit of not commenting on people's youtube videos, but this is the best flying tutorial I've seen. Great job.

Ah ha! that's cool

You are correct! Nathan Petrelli jumps as high as he can, and as soon as he stops going any higher. He bolts away!

4. You used up too many frames turning the body (when the character reaches max altitude, and then turns to blast off.) It would look much better if you would take out a few of those frames. Also, the character's size changes in the middle of the turn.
These are all minor things, but it's the little things that really make something perfect. This was, by far, the best effort on Youtube I've seen thus far. Keep up the awesome work, and I hope my advice helps and makes sense. :)

(#2 Continued)
You should look up at the sky the whole time before the jump. It will tell the viewer you're about to do something, and that you know what you're doing. Anticipation is key!
3. This one is more technical. There's a single frame in the animation where the flyer stays in the same spot, but moves further into the background. This frame should be eliminated. It's most likely not noticeable to an untrained eye, however, so it's nothing big.
One more in my next comment...

This is, by far, the best Heroes flight effect on YouTube.
However, I have some tips for you to make it even better.
1. The pulse at the beginning should be removed. It takes away from the realism of the flight, as this flight is not a "launch," but more of a jump proceeded by carrying yourself through the air.
2. Your acting through movement. I think there should be more anticipation for the jump, not only for believability, but also to create tension and excitement for the viewer.
I am very impressed! For a beginner you're certainly catching onto After Effects quickly! I also want to know, where did you get your smoke footage, or how did you make it?

@smoke - its very easy....just draw a circle
in photoshop with 0% brush hardness and
import it to after effects....resize it accordingly !!
then add the "bulge" effect from the "DISTORT" drop-down. play around with the bulge height, radius and opacity to get the desired effect ! :D

Really well done, but I would leave out the Neo bending the Matrix - effect before you're jumping". Could u give me the source of your stock footage (smoke)?
