I have included this in with my Christmas stuff because to me somehow, it belongs. Like Christmas, Bing will not end. He and his music, his memory, his grand legacy will always endure.
Dave here. "Der Bingle," continued: That morning, I listened to KGO's Jim Eason (sp?) take calls from people talking about Bing. Some had met, or known him. One lady who had been visiting in Palm Springs one time, was about to cross the street in downtown Palm Springs, when a familiar voice behind her warned her, "Not yet." "It was Bing Crosby!" she said, excitedly. One never knew who one might meet, there. Jack Benny often mentioned Palm Springs on his radio show.
Dave here. In 1977 I went to San Francisco on vacation, I arrived the same day "Der Bingle" died of a heart attack while playing golf in Spain. I looked up his name in the San Francisco phone book, and unlike many other famous people who had unlisted numbers, Harry L. Crosby was listed. Too late for me to call him, sadly. Wonder if he would have answered? The rest of my stay in the city by the bay was great. Took wine-country tour w/Tours San Francisco. Delightful.
@Myrtle791 What a wonderful comment. Thanks for your sensitivity. He was a grand entertainer and from what I read a great human. The world is better for him having been here. Thanks again. Charlie
