This course provides introductions to the institutions and constitutional frameworks of both the state of Missouri and the United States.
As part of Missouri State University's general education program and public affairs mission, this course focuses on the structures, processes, and outcomes of government institutions, as well as the rights, roles, and obligations of citizens in a democratic society.
Awareness of the "public" dimensions of life are increased while students are encouraged to develop a broader understanding of culture and society. The influence of institutions and political values are traced.
This is the first in a series of lectures on American Democracy and Citizenship by Dr. Patrick Scott. To view the full course please visit http://itunes.apple.com/itunes-u/pls-101-american-democracy/id416088286
Sometimes a simple introductory course in government, civics and democracy will help dispel false statements made everyday by politicians, special interests groups and media outlets. Education is the key to sustaining our democracy.
