Discovering A Dream: Chapter 1

Sorry about my little april fools joke, hehe.

*2 months later*

Joe's POV


"Carson. I love you. Please, just listen to me. I've loved you since I set eyes on you." I whispered, reaching for her hand. "I'll do everything I can for you. I'll make you happy, we'll be perfect together." I continued, waiting for a reaction. Nothing. "Please Car. I'm dying here."

This speech was like second nature to me. Everyday I come in here, spouting out the same things, hoping, praying for something. Anything. Nothing. It's been 2 months since that night. 2 months I've spent sat beside a Hospital bed, waiting for Carson. She'd given me nothing. Doctors said it was likely she'd wake up, but I couldn't give up. Ever since I'd met Carson my life had changed. Nick's birthday had passed in depression, we never celebrated. Riley's birthday had passed and still nothing. It was like our lives stopped without her. Kevin's was in a week and it wasn't looking good. He'd taken it particularly hard, but that's another story. Right now, it starts from that night. The night my life crashed and burned.

*2 months back*

"We have to go. Now!" I yelled at my brothers, rushing through the room, grabbing for my case.
"Joe, calm down." Kevin soothed.
"I can't calm down! You just said Carson was in trouble!" I yelled, panic setting in.
"Joe. He said she might be in trouble." Nick stated. "Let's just wait until we hear something from the girls."
"It's easy for you to say, your girlfriend is perfectly safe." I spat at him. "Step out of my way, I'm going back to California!" I yelled.
"If you're going back, we're coming with you." Kevin said, helping me pack my clothes.

I smiled at him, and continued packing. I was so glad they understood, but what came next nobody could understand.

*A couple hours later*

"Hayley!" I yelled rushing towards her.

They'd agreed to meet us in the airport, seen as they deffinetly weren't flying to Washington.

"Hayley! What's happened?" I begged, grabbing her hands and looking into her eyes.

She'd been crying. I couldn't help but let a tear roll down my own cheek.

"Hayley! Please." I continued.
"She's been shot." she muttered.

I dropped her hands and froze in place. Shot. By a gun. She could be dead! Maybe she was. That would explain why Hayley was crying.

"Is she dead?" I choaked out.

It seemed like forever waiting for an answer. What if she was dead? My life would be over, I'd never move on. I'd rather join her than live alone.

"No Joseph, she isn't dead!" she gushed, gripping onto me and letting her tears fall. Nick was already hugging Riley and Kevin just stood idle waiting for me to free Hayley. Right now I really needed somebody, just to tell me everything would work out.

"Do you want to go see her?" Hayley asked me.
"Yes." I answered, letting her go and rush towards Kevin.

*Present Day*

Little did I know that she'd be in a coma. Nobody had warned me, thinking it best to let me figure it out myself. I'd read online that talking to somebody in a coma helped, I'd even tried singing to her. But nothing seemed to happen. She just laid there, with her pale face and cold hands. I felt like she was slowly slipping away, and everything I did seemed to push her further.

"Joe, you need some sleep." Nick said, entering the room.
"I'm not leaving her." I said. "I think she's gonna wake up soon." I sighed, trying to believe my words.
"Joe, you've been here 3 days straight. Go get some sleep."
"Call me if she wakes up." I said, rising from my seat.
"Of course." he answered, taking my place beside the bed.

My brothers had been patient with me, but 2 months of sitting in a hospital every single day was hard work. I'd secluded myself trying to let them be happy, but Carson hadn't only effected me. She'd effected everybody.
