For the record, the former instrument at Worcester Cathedral had lost much of the tonal characteristics given to it by Robert Hope-Jones. It rather more closely resembled a number of other large, colourful H&H instruments.
I had the pleasure of playing it for a week-end of services in August 2004, for a visiting choir.
Interestingly enough, it worked perfectly well - including no appreciable wind leakage and no action faults. It sounded superb, grand and just right for the building
Back in January 2009 there was an organ day at the cathedral for members of the Mander Organs internet forum where we had a varied and excellent musical day courtesy of the cathedral's DoM, his assistant and the cathedral choir. It included a duet on "Ride of the Valkyries" which sounded superb!
On another note (pun intended) the Solo "Viole d'Orchestre" is a Hope-Jones rank and the "Choral Bass" on the Pedal is 18 century pipes according to the specification I have.
Oh come on.... who here actually remembers the old Hopeless Jones organ? What an unispiring lump. They were better of with the old digital job. This new Tickell is class. End of story.
Sounded very nice ,you were very lucky to have the organ to yourself !

Thank you.
Should have not touched the original organ. Its historic sound is now lost forever.
Simply add the new one.

Replaced the whole lot with the exception of, I think, 1 rank of pipes. Personaly I think the new organ is a big improvement and sounds splendid.
