The best singers are in my opinions, the ones who can use their range and style to bring forth a unique delivery of the lyrics and a good sense of atmosphere and passion to a song. Right now I'm listening to this alongside Jeff Buckley, who is the farthest thing from Kurt's voice. Jeff's is ethereal, fluttering, sirenish, and has a haunting beauty to it. But Kurt's is more scratchy, rough, angsty, and beautifully ugly. It all just points to how diverse music is and how every artist is different.

And it is. To suggest that technique is all that matters is absurd and I said no such thing.

Most anyone is able to get across an intended melody and rhythm, this does not mean they do it well. Being good means one is above average and better than most.

You may like his voice or his approach, but you can't claim he is a good singer by any stretch of the imagination. He isn't even singing, he is just yelling.

Horseshit. YOU claimed much of rock music is about technique--didn't you? Evidently, then, you place little importance on anything other than technique, including song writing. THAT was the retarded claim I was responding to. Don't try to grease your way out of it.

As for Kurt Cobain's "not being a good singer," he was perfectly able to bring across the intended melody and rhythm with his voice, and was therefore "good" by any reasonable definition.

Pretty sure the original claim was that he was an great *singer*. Which is what I disputed since he clearly is not. Songwriting is an entirely different argument. Try to follow along.

I'm going to give you a hint so that perhaps you won't go through your ENTIRE musical life sucking. Here it is: Music is mainly about melody and rhythm, and it takes very little technique to communicate these things to the listener. If technique becomes more important than melody and rhythm to the musician, technique is really his mortal enemy--it's worse than useless.

You're obviously someone who ONLY has technique, and you're jealous of people who have the creativity that will forever elude you. You're a joke, dude. I'm quite sure you couldn't write a decent song to save your own life. (I bet you can run a fast scale, though.) Why people like you ever go into music is beyond me--you'd be better suited doing something athletic than creative.

I just wasted 5 minutes reading your argument and I can safely say you're both very retarded. Dear reader, do not bother reading their argument unless you want to lose faith in humanity.
