@aryllia He did ask but it was pointless, I think the thrice defied him is about them (Lilly & James) getting away from him and nearly stopping him from achieving his goals; if James and Lilly lived I think they could have defeated him if only they had not had a son Harry that is as they had to stop the fighting to care for him. Never mind the Prophecy!

snape kinda reminds me of neville: they were both bullied in a way at school, in the end they turned out to be one of the bravest characters and they both become hogwarts professers

@Annabella56 Actually, Voldemort tried to recruit both James and Lily before they left Hogwarts, and I think the prophecy said something about "son of those who'd defied him thrice" so by that night he probably was fed up with asking nicely - it was hand the baby over or die.

Spent like 45 min trying the find the blasted place I read he wanted to recruit them but can't find it. Can anyone else verify or am I being delirious? Think Hagrid said it somewhere... Or Rowling. Unsure.
