jiskaa jitnaa aaNchal thaa, utnii hii saugaat milii
jab chaahaa dil ko samjheN, hansne kii aavaaz sunii
jaise ko'ii kahtaa ho, le phir tujh ko maat milii
maateN kaisii, ghaateN kyaa, chalte rahnaa aaTh pahar

It is not very honourable to tarnish another dead lady's memory. Madhubala was as unhappy as Meena. Rumours were spread by Meena's so-called "friends", f. ex., Achla Sachdev. Meena married Chandan (Kamal Amrohi), because "Kamalsaheb mera naseeb hai". Besides, why discuss her personal life we don't know anything for sure about? Her gift to us is important, and the poetry is heartbreaking.

I knew both Kamal Amrohovi and Meena as a child and as a teenager. She was neither alcoholic nor gigolo huntress. It is sad that Madhubala, who was both, was successful in spreading rumours about Meena. Meena was an intellectual and of had high morale with deep understanding and appreciation of Urdu literature. She was only 12 years older than me. Believe you me. They both were very much in love with each other but clashed in personalities. Dr. Zaidi

No one can smile as beautifully as “Madhubala”, and no one can weep as beautifully as “Meena Kumari”. No female can look so beautiful while weeping as “Meena Kumari” in the whole Indian film industry.
