Guitar Man Page

Jimmy Page. He is the guitarist and founder of the band Led Zeppelin. Supposedly, a lot of bands hated Led Zeppelin. When they first appeared in the late 1960's or early 1970's even the rock mag Rolling Stone hated them too but Led Zeppelin is so great that a lot of fans do not care about what other nonfans say. Led Zeppelin's music and presence and extra something is stronger than anything that nonfans say. A lot of guitarist supposedly play better guitar than Jimmy Page but not a lot of them play guitar parts that is relevant to the song. And not a lot of them can even write memorable songs. Sure, a lot of people can play 10,000 super-precise notes a minute on the guitar but how many of them have written songs like Kashmir and how many of them do look like they are doing something they really really love like the way Jimmy Page looked when he was playing the solo to Stairway To Heaven. So who are they to criticise. If Jimmy Page was born in the era of Beethoven he would fit right in.

In reply to the comment below: yes. It's just that for me, whenever I hear the song Guitar Man by Bread, I always automatically think of Jimmy Page first. I couldn't find a Led Zeppelin song that is all about being a guitar man or something like "I am a guitar player, I love what I do". Just about any video of Jimmy Page playing the guitar shows that anyways: that he loves being a guitar player. Besides, there's a chance that the Bread song is actually about JP coz both Bread & LZ are 70s bands.

My comment was in response to all the people that was saying that JP is a sloppy guitar player. I agree with you that JP has plenty of emotions behind his guitar playing but JP also happens to be one of if not the greatest riff maker ever and that's a composer's talent. Where would Zeppelin be if Jimmy Page only played other people's music instead of creating all those original riffs/songs? Of course aura and stage presence also matters but Led Zeppelin had all that, and more.

It's not how you play. It's what you play. There are plenty of better piano players than Beethoven or Mozart but there aren't that plenty of "creators". The early Zep songs may have been "plagiarized" but even Ludwig or Wolfgang did that too. Songs like Stairway To Heaven and Kashmir and at least 30 more Zep songs sounds like absolute original creations and not just "blues" ripoffs at all. Sloppy or not... Jimmy Page is a composer/creator first and a guitarist/rock god second.
