Previously Deported Illegal Cuts Ex-Girlfriend's Throat

LEOMINSTER — A Guatemalan man charged with slashing his ex-girlfriend's throat while she was at work early yesterday morning — and cutting and punching a co-worker who tried to help her — was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail, or $1 million in surety, today in Leominster District Court.

Aaron Noe Camey Valenzuela, 23, was wearing hospital scrubs during his court appearances, and had cuts on his wrists and neck. His court-appointed lawyer, Wally Bachmann, said Mr. Valenzuela had just come from treatment at a hospital for self-inflicted wounds, and was traumatized. Mr. Bachmann said his client told him he has no recollection of the alleged assaults, which took place about 7 a.m. yesterday at United Solutions, a plastics factory at 33 Patriot's Circle.

But yesterday, Aaron Noel Camey Valenzuela, 23, approached his former girlfriend and stabbed her in the throat, before slashing a woman who tried to help her and leading police on a 3 1/2-hour chase, authorities said.

After Valenzuela allegedly stabbed the womans co-worker at United Solutions who intervened, he fled on foot, police said, and later turned the knife on himself, cutting his own wrists and throat.

After police were called to the scene, they launched a search effort that involved a helicopter and police dogs. Police eventually reached Valenzuela on his cellphone and coaxed him to surrender. Police found him in a city-owned apple orchard, Sholan Farms, where his footprints led to a large wooden crate in which he had been hiding.
