Tut does not seem to be muting the strings behind the slide with his left hand. Can some dobro players comment?

Bought a Tut Taylor album on 1968 called 12- String Dobro. One of the cuts has Glen Campbell on it playing his 12-string Gibson. He uses a flat pick rather than thumb and fingure picks.
