Psycho. A novelty country song written by one of the best country and western writers of his time, Leon Payne in the 1960's. This version is performed by Earl Clifton 2011 and will be released in the early fall. It's just one of those old creepy country songs about a man gone crazy and ends up killing everyone around him. The stills have been licensed from Canstockphoto.com and this video presentation was edited by Cliff Meekins.
Psycho lyrics below...
Written by Leon Payne performed by Earl Clifton. Other artist that have performed this song include Eddie Noack Beasts of Bourbon Elvis Costello and Jack Kittel
Can Mary fry some fish Mama
As I'm as hungry as can be
Oh Lord, how I wish you could, Mama
Could you stop that baby crying cause my head is killing me...
I saw my Ex again last night Mama
She was at the dance at Millers store
She was with that Jacky White Mama
I killed them both and now there buried under Jacobs sycamore...
You think I'm psycho don'tcha Mama?..
Mama? Could you pour me a cup?..
You think I'm psycho don'tcha Mama?
You know their gonna lock me up...
Oh, don'tcha hand me Johnny's pup, Mama...
As I may squeeze him too tight...
I'm having crazy dreams again Mama,
Let me tell you bout last night...
I woke up in Johnny's room, Mama...
Standing right there by his bed,
With my hands around his throat, Mama...
wishing both of us were dead...
You think I'm psycho don'tcha Mama?..
I just killed Johnny's pup!..
You think I'm psycho don'tcha Mama?
You better let em' lock me up...
Do you recall our neighbor girl Mama?..
I think her name was Betty Clark...
Oh don'tcha tell me that's she's dead Mama,
cause I just saw her in the park...
We were sitting on a bench Mama...
Thinking of a game to play...
Seems I was holding a wrench, Mama...
Then my mind just walked away...
You think I'm psycho don'tcha Mama?..
I didn't mean to break your cup...
You think I'm psycho don'tcha Mama?
Mama, Mama wake up...
You think I'm psycho don'tcha Mama? you know their gonna lock me up...
Chords I used for this version: D-A-D-Bm-D-A-D-G-D (verse)
Chorus sections: D(Hold)- Bm-D-G-A-D
John Heinrich performed steel guitar on this track as he has with all Earl Clifton's country tracks. His part was recorded in his studio in Nashville.
I recorded all the acoustic instruments (Vocals, Guitar, Drums) using a Blue snowball microphone and tracking in garageband. I mastered the track using Sony soundforge. Acoustic guitar played was an Esteban Legacy. Snare drum was a Lugwig. Ride was a zildjian A custom 18" inch. Bass guitar - custom. All keys, Npoly Synth app I downloaded from the apple store. Electric guitar - Fender Tele. Amp used was the built in (garageband) Twangy county amp. The bass drum was sampled using a pre-recorded bass drum on a Jazz kit from the garageband loop library. Tamborine was also a looped sample from garageband.
