Time running out for Polish shipyard - 12 Sept 2008

Poland's famous Gdansk shipyard is trying to keep its head above water as an end to state subsidies from the EU threatening to close down the historic port.

Al Jazeera's Mark Seddon reports on 'The birthplace of Solidarity" as it was known, as Poland's former president fights to keep the ship from making its final voyage.

Hello: AlItalia is a private company, whereas the shipyards are Government controlled. There is always, at present, a preference for the Government to help private companies.

Poland needs to protect this vital piece of their national infrastructure. Many countries subsidize their national interest companies why should Poland be any different? This is the same as propping up Airbus and European Areospace.
