Thessaloniki State Conservatoire was founded in 1914. It has nurtured generations of musicians, artists, theorists and educators and through them it has contributed to the city, to Greece and abroad. The Thessaloniki State Orchestra has arisen from it, while its numerous concerts have contributed in keeping the cultural standards of the city high throughout the years. The Thessaloniki State Conservatoire owns the largest musical library in Greece and it is constantly visited by students, professors and researchers from all around the world. The Manager of the Conservatoire hopes that, although at the moment it is "wounded" by the economic crisis, like many other cultural institutions in the country, it hopes to continue its important mission.
