@SageofCancer - The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), published by the American Psychiatric Association, lists gender dysphoria as a mental illness. Sufferers present as biologically complete males and develop male secondary sexual characteristics, however have a strong desire to belong to the opposite sex. Surely then, this psychological dosorder should be treated rather than pandered too. To answer your question, I was rooted in science, not political correctness.

I do not believe a school should be performing sex reassignment surgery if they aren't prepared to give their patients a mental screening; to see whom is mentally stable enough to undergo the medical process of transition. I believe you are only a heterosexual male today because you were rooted out in such a process.

@SageofCancer - Dr. McHughes and his team decided to cease allsex reassignment surgeries. Their conclusion was “that Hopkins was fundamentally cooperating with a mental illness. We psychiatrists, I thought, would do better to concentrate on trying to fix their minds and not their genitalia.” Instead of pretending that transsexuality is something to celebrate, we should recognize and ttreat it for what it really is, a serious psychological problem.

They had much the same problems with relationships, work and emotions as before. So physical changes did nothing to help them, as their problems were essentially psychological (not surprisingly). I.E., he wanted to know whether gender really is merely the result of gay-driven social engineering. one group were “guilt-ridden homosexual men” who thought being female would resolve that problem; and the other group was made up of older heterosexual men who found intense sexual arousal in cross-dressing as females. The name for this condition is....

@SageofCancer - Dr. Paul McHugh, psychiatrist-in-chief at John Hopkins University, wrote an account of his university’s adventures in sex reassignment surgery. He interviewed many men before their surgery (most cases were male to female). They spent a lot of time talking about sex and their sexual experiences, which seemed to preoccupy their thinking. Many of these unfortunate men claimed to be “lesbians,” who found women sexually attractive. Gee, I find women attractive, am I a male lesbian?
