An interview from Ben Stein's Expelled documentary.
Richard Dawkins always seems to stay on top of his interviews and tends to make his interviewers look like complete idiots. Well, Ben turns the tables on him this time.

Ben stein, I used to value your intelligence when I watched you as a kid. Now I know you are no better than the religtards on youtube. You only ask questions that are logical fallacys (who created that cell?, well who the fuck created god?) and have lost all credibility with me. You refuse to allow logic into your religious mindset, and you come off sounding like an elitist idiot. Intelligent design can be in science class when you make it a scientific theory, not a second before.

I couldn't find the comment so I replied to this one. You mentioned, Isaac and Rebekah on the bible as being an as marriage out of love.

I was simply saying it had the earmarks of an arranged marriage.

It just happened that his father chose well and the two fell in love with each other. Well, Isaac loved her anyway.-- this has been known to happen.

Marriages back then were backwards you married then fell in love... Not like it works now.

Since we are having a somewhat civil conversation I'll share. I once loved a girl who lied to me... Married someone after promised to be with me. She was a dear friend, I trusted her twice and was let down both times. Her name is Rebecca... She blew up like a cow when she got married. I saw irony.

Who says you are betraying someone... What if you are swingers? I mean its not my brand of loving, but who's to say two consenting couples can't agree on something. There are many ways someone who you love can hurt you other than by cheating on you.--- what makes sex any more wrong than those.

I guess my point is that not everyone is wired for Christianity, or my ideals of what's right the only difference is that I don't think they will or should be punished forever.

Have sex with someone you Know... Not a stranger.

That's my point. It's the same with marriage... Marry someone you know not a stranger.

    Glad we agreed.

Yeah. I just LOVE the catholics take on sex. They would rather poor people in Africa/ India etc, who are destitute and poor already and cant feed the families they have to begin with. Not use condoms or birth control because it gets in "Gods" way. So they are now suppose to add to their burden by having MORE kids they can't feed.

I think the catholics are bat shit crazy in some regards.

Is that what they teach in the churches about "why deflowering a woman outside of marriage was punishable by death"?

Deflowering denotes taking ones virginity... Adultery is wrong at any point in the marriage, not just before "consumation".

All you need is to be cheated on to understand why it's wrong... Imagine you're with the girl/guy of your dreams and you're in love with them, and they say they love you too, then they cheat on you... betray you. It's devastating.

The idea that teaching that it's ok to have sex before marriage (commitment for life, which it used to be about), is succumbing to the belief that "we can't stop it, so let's minimize the damage", which is understandable, but it is not ideal, and should not be taught as "the right thing to do".

You shouldn't marry so you can have sex, and you shouldn't have sex until you're ready and willing to accept the responsibilities of what may come of it.

Yes, they are measures to attempt to prevent it, but they aren't guaranteed. So unless both parties ready to accept the responsibility and/or consequences of parenthood (which the best situation for any child is to be raised in a loving, stable family. A father and mother who are always there for them. (I think most people agree on that, at least)), they shouldn't take the chance.
