Norfolkscot, good text and believe me the solid heriocs of the Irish that day burned a legend for themselves but your folk were not at Suvla Bay but at Cape Helles. The River Clyde grounded on V beach below Hill 138,141 and the fortress of Sedd El Barr, were huge objectives for the day.Mate, hail to the Irish that walked to their deaths from the Clyde and hail to the Irish that consolidated the position so that the whole southern invasion was not repulsed into the sea! The gents involved are heroes!

Agreed that the Irish who fought should be honoured but wish people would stop trying to "own" this, have been watching Peters Video for about 4 years now, I am English and an Australian Resient and am grateful to be here, but one thing I would ask you all to remember all those poor sods sent to fight and die in this battle and others were of the same ilk, the ANZACS and the other commonwealth troops, don't pick and choose where you feel empathy, if you do then you miss the point

You have to understand we don't feel less empathetic towards you blokes but as it stands we were at the time free Australians fighting for her majesty because we were told to not because we decided to join the cause some people hold England responsible for the deaths for that reason I being of a son of just about every nationality that fought for her majesty feel empathetic to all involved.

Perhaps, but you still use phrases like "you blokes" no doubt people hold "England" responsible but who was "England"? Its the same old story the poor are sent to fight and die sometimes for a just cause, in this case for a grab of the failing Ottaman Empire by European powers, I truly respect Aussie pride been really nice to see, I fly the flag myself next to a (slightly) smaller George cross in respect for my new homeland. I just wish in these awful times we could be brothers, we used to be...

And never a word about the Irish soldiers from what was to become the Republic, who landed at Suvla Bay. Disembarking from the SS River Clyde into a sea of blood..

All your comments are so true. Forgive me for the carry on earlier, was fired up by the comments that now have been removed. If you have seen my previous posts I completely agree as my great grand dad fought with the Light Horse in Gallipoli and Palestine. Respect the person and not what the actions of a given government of the time thought was best. All people of the Commonwealth suffered during the Great War. The respect that I feel for these champions is amazing!

I know I will never serve my country like these men do. But I work hard for a living, I work the land and the cattle. It can get hard at times but nothing will ever compared to what these men gave for australia. The men that came back alive wished they had been killed. What those men ( half of them just boys) saw things no eyes should ever see. Lest we Forget.
