Less about WW2 than any of Britian's doomed colonial adventures in the Sixties e.g. Aden, Malaya, Kenya. And probably a nod and wink to the Americans who were starting up in Vietnam that year.

"Tunes of Glory" is the only other film that has a ghost of a chance of being comparable to this great film!

Aw ah want to see this film! Saw the film "Watership Down" when i was wee and ah still find it haunting to watch. Harry Andrews voice terrifies me still! ;)

Certain films are full of great actors & still manage to be so good that it becomes the best film any of them have been in. This is one of them.

Can they get this out on Blu-Ray? I would love to see it & I'm not paying £30 for a DVD.

The man 2017, granted this is a movie, but what I was trying to say is that the movie makers were trying to show that in this role Connery was a Sgt Major and that war has a deliterious effect on men, meaning living in rough and highly stressful conditions is not the same as a week spent on the Spanish beach tanning oneself.
