Another marvel of orthodox music with the Don Cossacks. And as the song's title is Heaven & Earth, what else could I have done to accompany this song than a diaporama of russian sky and landscape ?
Небо и земля ныне торжествуют
To appreciate Serge Jaroff's harmonisation skills, compare
with same song as interpreted by Kiev Pechesky monastery choir, file in MP3 format under:
http://www.iona.kiev.ua/download/audio/prinoshenie/26_prinoshenie.mp3
English lyrics:
Heaven and Earth, Heaven and Earth
Now welcome their Redeemer.
Angels and people, angels and people
Join in a celebration.
Salvation is begun, Born is the Virgin's Son!
Angel voices ringing, Wisemen gifts are bringing,
Shepherds tell the story, Star proclaims the glory;
Christ is born in Bethlehem.

  • what else could I have done to accompany this song than a diaporama of russian sky and landscape ? You could have honored UKRAINIAN culture & the millions of Ukrainians- half of its entire population -murdered by Russians(half of the Gulag population were UKRAINIAN)by calling this song UKRAINIAN,as it is in fact is-IT IS A UKRAINIAN SONG SUNG BY UKRAINIANS&accompanying it with a UKRAINIAN diaporama. Where is the word "UKRAINIAN" in all the uploads of the UKRAINIAN not Russian Don Cossack choir?

  • @jwsyt2 I think your comment is clear enough, however I cannot say if it's correct or not.

    See what Wikipedia says:

"Jaroff was born April 1, 1896 in Makaryev, Kostroma Province, Russia. He trained at the Moscow Synod School for Choral Singing.

Makaryev is a town in Kostroma oblast, Russia.

The Don River is one of the major rivers of Russia. It rises in the town of Novomoskovsk 60 km southeast from Tula southeast of Moscow, and flows for a distance of 1,950 km to the sea of Asov."

  • Thank you

wish you a great and healthy 2012

  • @SlavicMaleChorus This is pure Ukrainian literary language. The song is not sung in literary Muscovite Russian.

  • Thank you for posting this :o)

  • This is sung in Ukrainian or a dialect of Ukrainian. Ruthanian, Carpatho-Rus also

sing this melody. I wonder what the original or first language was used to sing this.

  • Actual name of the song is Heaven and Earth and it is a Christmas song.
