@rbeez2004 What jazz tune do you suggest? I am not a big jazz fan, even though Hiromi and Chick Corea are my favorite composers and performers. Okay, maybe I just don't like straight ahead jazz. Anyway, I don't really have any hifi system anymore. I just have a cheapo Chinese made Crown XLS-202 amplifier driving the 3800s and the whole bunch of MIDI gear connected to it (through a cheapo Behringer mixer). Yeah, I play keyboards. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to digest Hiromi or Chick Corea

@dvamateur Yeah I have not seen a pair in years and years. I have 2 sets of these 4800 towers. Yep I have been watching those very same ones on Ebay. They really do sound amazing. You have a nice set of speakers for a great price. Plue they are brand new. I bought mine back in 1992 and they still sound perfect. Any other questions or comments would be welcomed! Thanks for watching!

Well about a year ago I saw a complete set of THX technics speakers on Ebay. The seller wanted a huge amount of money for them. I tried to talk him down a bit as I thought the cost was to high. He wouldnt budge so. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I think my "new" JBL 3800 speakers are a bit heavy on the bass side, but that could be due to my room acoustics. Room layout, the furniture, etc, these have great impact on the sound. Back in the day, I used to have JBL 2600s, which sounded absolutely fantastic. I ran them from Technics SU-V560 Class-AA amplifier, and later from Technics SA-R477 receiver. I have to say that the technics AA-Class amplifier was the best I had heard. Anyway, what do you mean by breaking in the woofers?

@dvamateur When I bought these 4800s the 10 inch woofer suspention was very stiff. This was because they needed to be broke in. there are many ways to do this. One is simply to play a bass heavy song at low levels for a few hours. This breaks the spider of the woofer in or loosens it up. It greatly helps sound quality and low end response. On my speakers I removed the driver from the cabinet and connected it to the amp directly. Jazz is great break in music.

@dvamateur Those 3800s have the 8 inch or the 10 inch woofer? I cant remember.

@rbeez2004 The 3800s have 8 inch woofer. I believe 4800s are 10 inch. I think that's the only difference between 4800s and 3800s.

@dvamateur Yeah I thought those had the 8 inch. Yeah you got a great deal on ebay. I paid alot more for mine. Enjoy them. Just so you know those woofers deffinetly need a break in. I can tell you how.
