Peter Strickland, the director of Katalin Varga, returns with a very different tale with Berberian Sound Studio. Set in 1976, Toby Jones plays a documentary sound engineer who finds himself employed by a notorious low-budget Italian horror studio. Uneasy in his new environment and surrounded by a world he finds alien, he throws himself into his work, failing to notice how life is slowly beginning to imitate art. An homage to the classic Italian Giallos of the period, Strickland's film is another triumph.

Special Preview plus Q&A with director Peter Strickland - Tuesday 28 August. For more information and tickets - http://bit.ly/PCYzAM

In cinemas nationwide from 31 August 2012

A great film. Not a documentary, just really densely detailed about the sound production of a film. For what it's worth, it scared the hell out of me and I'm not even really sure why! I suppose it's testament to how much the sound of a film plays a vital part in setting the mood of a film. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that thinks it looks interesting. And after some serious consideration, the ending makes perfect sense. Be prepared to bring your brain with you, folks!

Ok. Totally understood and respected. I had no idea it was a documentary about sound effects in a horror film. As a sound designer my self I'm really looking forward to this film. Thanks

of course not! The problem was that i've been watching a boring documentary about how to make sound effects in a horror film, thats why a thought there would be blood or horror, but trust me, that film is a boring documentary :-). but thats my opinion, maybe you will like it ;-)

Are you saying that it's shit because of the lack of horror and blood? No offence, I haven't seen the movie yet

not cool, trust me. I saw that film in sitges film festival beacuse i thought it would be cool but there was no horror, neither blood...it was a shit. When i saw the trailer i thought that it will be a great film, but it was the worst film I've ever seen.

Quite an engaging film but the ending was sudden and inconclusive, really disappointing as it gave the impression of leading to some denouement of the protagonists tenure at the studio but unfortuneatly the film makers must have run out of celluloid and/or money

Hugely confusing and at times perplexing plot. But isn't that the essence of Argentio movies? Isn't that what we love about Eraserhead? Terrific atmospheres. Play it through surround sound and prepare to be unsettled. Great movie.
