  • Even in the twilight of his career, Bergonzi still had that light tone to his voice. It did not darken as he aged, unlike a lot of tenors. And this fellow started out as a baritone! Bravo, Carlo!

  • It's because unfortunately pretty much every "vocal coach" nowadays is full of shit.

  • una tecnica correcta simplemente eso,el gran maestro

  • Va' dritta al cuore la sua grande voce cosi' piena di musicalità e armonia.

  • El maestro Bergonzi tenia una tecnica impecable y unica para las arias de bel canto italiano.

  • I heard Bergonzi sing Nemorino at Covent Garden in about 1980 with Geraint Evans as Dulcamara. It is without doubt the greatest of all the performances I have heard there over 40 years. I went with high expectations of Bergonzi and they were TOTALLY surpassed. He is one of the very greatest tenors.

  • I was a twenty-three year old tenor in the choir for that performance. One of my other friends and I snuck in to hear Bergonzi dictate to the conductor how he'd sing "Una furtiva lagrima." While the voice was mostly gone, it was one of the most elegant, simply GORGEOUS lessons in singing I ever had. Rost was WONDERFUL in that production, as was Gregor- the two Hungarians were delightful.

  • I saw him every year for 20 years at the Met. He sang this with Scotto.

  • Several years ago,I participated in a master class(at Carnegie Hall)with Peter Schreier(who was 68 at the time).Like Mr.Bergonzi,he too sounded better than 98percent of the tenor-population (of the entire world).I understand that Nicolai Gedda (at 82) ,still sounds great as well!! It appears that singers of this golden age (gone by)knew something about vocal health/longevity,that has definitely "fallen by the wayside"in recent years.

  • Simply the best Nemorino ever!

  • Nemorino was his farewell role on stage. His gave his last operatic performance in Baltimore. This was in 1993. Adina was Andrea Rost and Dulcamara was the great hungarian bass, Jozsef Gregor.
