Rovers hosted a top of the table clash between themselves and St Pats knowing that a win would see them take over at the top of the league. In an atmospheric game the two sides were honours even at the end of a first half that saw plenty of good football but comparatively few chances. The second half saw Pats initially take the lead, but Rovers fought back and took control of the game, and a brace of goals by Chris Turner gave Rovers the win. St. Pats had a chance to level the game in extra time when a Rovers player handled the ball in a goalmouth scramble, but Hoops keeper Alan Mannus saved the resulting penalty, much to the delight of the crowd, to give Rovers a deserved win.
