I like this version. No B.S. in it. My favourite version is Sergio Mendes and and Brasil '66. But, respect to Jimmy Webb. He wrote this great song. And without his song there are no versions of it.
This is very close to his version on the "Ten Easy Pieces" cd. He is a GREAT PIANO PLAYER. His voice is more soulful than anyone's with his own material. That's what makes this one of my favorite cd's. He has written some of the greatest songs in modern music history, plain and simple.
Campbell is good but something of a singer for hire. Jimmy sings it here obviously as he envisioned it when he wrote it. It's voice and piano, it doesn't get more simple than that.
