Arthaus Musik presents the live recording of an extraordinary concert: the Bavarian Radio Choir and Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons perform Palestrina's motet "Tu es Petrus" and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in a concert given in honour of Pope Benedict XVI in the great audience hall of the Vatican. The final chorus of Beethoven's symphony "Freude, schöner Götterfunken," based on Friedrich Schiller's "Ode to Joy," is one of the most-loved classical pieces worldwide. This music is especially suitable for connecting people from different cultures crossing all material and immaterial borders. Enter this special concert atmosphere and enjoy the address given by the pope himself, which is available on this DVD.

Hey, I bought my own personal Millenium Bug complete with sneakers back in Nov 1999 for 5 bucks, set him on my computer, and it still works just fine!

  • and now I see the spirit of Kappelmeister Antonio Salieri peering from the back, smiling and musing, Well mein pupil did vell, playing for His Holiness Benedict XVI, what do you say to that?

then he goes back to digging out the dung pits of Purgatory, with a sad smile on his face, oh well...

  • @Myself0101

No, that honor belongs to the music of Mozart, esp his Requiem.

  • @MsPandaRosa yes it's a lovely work but that doesn't mean there is some divine power behind it :)

  • @Myself0101

But oh what a chance, to be there and alive, and to hear such a work.

The needle on a compass does not know what moves it, and yet, as Galileo insists, "It does move."
