Adding custom error bars in Mac Excel 2008

A short tutorial explaining how to add error bars to a column graph in the Mac version of Excel (Mac Office 2008). I also show how to add custom labels to the data series on the x-axis. Excel does not make adding error bars easy, but hopefully this tutorial will help.

I have gotten to the step where you adjust the error bars in format data series, but when I bring it up my screen does not have the custom button, what do I do now ?

Are you using the Mac version? The newest windows version looks quite different, and the custom button can be harder to find.

thank you thank you thank you thank you. you have no idea how long i just spent trying to figure this out. my directions for my lab report only explain it an old version of windows. i don't know why they make this so complicated to do.

Apparently I have Excel 2008 for Mac, just like you, but yet, the error feature in Format Data Series you speak of is not there for me. Any suggestions?

Hello, thank you for doing this. I have a bar chart with two bars for one series and when I select one bar only that one selects and I cannot get the Error bar option. Any Advice?

nice. key point was the holding command when selecting error values for the error bars. much simpler than the way I was taught.
