The creators of the low-cost I-slate tablet are preparing for full-scale production following a yearlong series of tests that show the device is an effective learning tool for Indian children. The I-slate, which will eventually be solar-powered, is designed for classrooms that lack electricity. It is under development at the Institute for Sustainable and Applied Infodynamics, a collaborative program between Rice University in Houston and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
