Avenger MSX

Released in 1986 by Gremlin Graphics for the MSX Avenger is the sequel to their earlier Way of the Tiger, although that game was a fighting game and this one is an adventure.

After your training in Way of the Tiger you are on a mission of vengeance and in order to do so you must fight your way in a huge castle filled with spiders, demons and priest.

You are aided by your god Kwon who will restore your power (by pressing '2') but don't do this to often otherwise you will die.

And as in any good adventure you must solve puzzles as well. In this case how to use your keys wisely.

As with all games released by Gremlin Grahpics it has excellent intro music. For this clip I have fully taped it. Please enjoy it.

This game is often compared with Gauntlet.

This game was also released for the Spectrum and the C64.

what i loved about these games was you could go out and play a full game of football and extra time and by the time you got back it would be just about finished loading:)

Thank you for uploading this game. It brings back fond memories of my MSX. I had both Way Of The Tiger games but never completed Avenger.

I also played the original gamebooks they were based upon by Mark Smith & Jamie Thomson.

My favourite part in the game was when you were down on health and would ask Kwon to bless you - if you did it too often a bad noise would happen and the screen writing would say "You have angered Kwon!" and you would die.

and 30% of the time, there would be an error in the cassete and the loading would fail. My cousin could identify the changes in files, error, etc, only be hearing that weird noise...

I am glad you enjoyed it. Way of the Tiger was also a very good game. Indeed fantastic mid eighties gaming. :) :)
