The EAR started to manage EU assistance programmes in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in 2001. Within the first year, the Agency assisted the authorities in getting 85% of internally displaced persons to return to their homes. More than 1000 houses were rebuilt and electricity supplies restores to some 15,000 users. One monastery and one mosque were also reconstructed. Further significant progress has been made since in order to support the wider reform effort of the country towards EU membership.
