Kenyan rental market practice seems to be pro-landlord. The absence of a specific law controlling house rent adds salt to the wounds of tenants who have to adapt to the push in pull out game, based on how much they can offer landlords. Ray Polo reports.

Oh, yes. If you damage the house before, you should suffer some deposit reduction. But that is one sided. What if the house is not habitable after some time? Does Kenyan law speak about it? No. What laws govern the deposit? What laws govern pest infestation? Poor house maintenance? Breakage by thieves? How should eviction be effected? If you lived in Europe, Canada etc.. you will see the difference with what they have and what we have..

@edenskid aki ure right.....coz my forst thought isn't that wat the deposit is there for.....if i damage the house before evicting then i should expect to NOT see my deposit back! it's as simple as that.

How many tenants are educated in Kenya? How about housing associations? why don't they fucking unite and then call the AG or an MP and ask to draft a motion to parliament? Kenyans, when are we waking up from slumber??

Very sad indeed. Poor electrical workmanship is most likely to blame
