  • Transparency only exists on raster layers for images. So if you're working on a background image you need to promote it to a raster layer from the layers menu. I believe I demonstrate this in my layers intro tutorial. If you're pasting in one picture onto another it'll crate the raster layer for you. From there you can go ahead and use the eraser tool to carve out the eyes. I also have a demonstration, not exactly the same, of this idea in my Ichigo Hollow eye tutorial.
