  • thank god for a good guitar player...doesnt it make such a difference...not only chromatic..but dynamic...as opposed to a bodhran with six strings....he plays rhythm and does not sit on the tune...thanks for posting this.

  • Absolutely amazing !! Brilliant post and thanks for sharing ! A good few years back in Larkins Garrykennedy !

  • @AdventOctober i think it might be C G D A as gerry told me once he likes to us that in songs

  • What tuning is he in, traditional GDAE? Its sounds higher?

  • @Ptarmi

Well observed, sir or madam as the case may be.

  • @tocotodo Aye, a touch Bluegrassy alright, but then there's a wee touch of the Bluegrass about the way Gerry himself plays ye olde Banjo, don't you think, so perhaps that's why these guys play so well together.

  • Guitar is good. He doesn't play it like a percussion instrument like some people do. And the standard tuning I think is better. You can play full chords like

  • Of course, Gerry is marvelous.

But I can't help listening to the guitar player. First of all, he is one of very few Irish session guitar players I have noticed who plays in standard tuning. He really makes those bass line stand out. Very chromatic at times, almost (dare I say it?) - bluegrassy!

  • Lovely tunes and not swamped with an excess of ornamentation. What an amazing talent Jerry O'Connor is. Another great posting. Many thanks.

  • He's brilliant!
