Unusually sensitive and lyrical rendition many echelons above any pianist posted thus far on youtube. Each note sings out, the melody is clearly heard and well supported by the underlying sustaining accompaniment. Harold
One of the few truly great pianists playing one of the most beautiful pieces, any period, any genre, any instrument. the way brendel (generally) holds tension is amazing. And referring to some comments on here...oh GOD: horovitz? (shudders) That's like comparing a Schoenberg modern dance performance (Ibrendel) with The Three Tenors belching for a stadium of soccer moms (horovitz)..
For me this is truly inspiring. I learnt this piece because of seeing this video; thankyou to the author for posting. For me this is just a wonderful interpretation, superb control of dynamics, Brendel just controls the piece wonderfully. Masterful.
