Here I share my opinions on how the massive effort, YoutubeLive, turned out on Saturday, November 22nd, in San Francisco, California.

  • Many of the people who bring audiences to YouTube are most of the audience so I agree... they should've panned around to get them. Although, if they were trying to keep it more like an award show (like VH1) I thought it was done nicely. I spent a lot of time even during performances trying to scan the audience for familiar friends, LOL! :) I also thought the cams were too close in proximity. Most times you can see footage from the peripheal of the other cams. A "Pan Cam" would've rocked!

  • Okay, AnnSpade - you so would've totally brought down the house! Your instant charm, awesome personality and incredible talents would've been the highlight of this entire thing!

  • I think that Youtube Live Tokyo was done much better because they had a stage for Youtubers who weren't part of their concert to perform. So they had the concert as well as Youtubers who wanted to express themselves.

Livetokyo and Livetokyo1 are worth checking out!

I agree with most of what you said and personally didn't like most of the Youtubers that they put on stage, it was more of a concert than a gathering which is disappointing to me. There was no age diversity on stage either.

  • Thanks for your remarks, GuruMN.

  • I don't think that the success of youtube is dependent on just a stage full of youtubers. It takes little guys like us, too. In my opinion, youtube should be more categorized. Believe it or not I'm the most viewed HVAC technician on youtube. Youtube will probably never recognize my specialized videos. I spend about four hours a day answering at least a dozen emails from HVAC techs all over the world asking me for technical help. Yet, Youtube has never flown me anywhere. This is not a complaint.

  • Hi Jim. Great point. I think, in general, Youtube could've done a much better job at including the every day Youtubers in this event and hopuefully they will in their next one.

  • Did you have to pay or anything to go there? >.>

I wanted to go... I live in CA, Walnut. YouTube Live was very close to where I was... D:

  • Haha well I got my invite pretty early on, so I would like to think that they think I'm kinda cool!

I didn't want to spend the money to attend this, I felt it was going to be overproduced and that I wouldn't get my plane ticket's worth. I feel like I made the best decision for me. I am not really the type of person to let someone else pay my way, either, so yea. I stayed home and watched it on my computer.

  • Thanks, Xavier. :)

    BIG HuG!

  • Thanks, TheSmiterer. I'm not sure how long it's gonna be around.

  • Hi Laurie. Workshops and conference rooms would've done the trick as well. Good points.

  • Hi PB. Glad to see you posting.

  • Hi Beccah. I think you're another Youtube celeb that should've been included.
