Amanda from Grishko UK shows her favourite recommended method of sewing on Pointe shoe ribbons so that the ribbon and foot work together to hold the shoe in place more securely. See www.grishko.co.uk for more Pointe Shoe information
Amanda learnt this method from Esther Juon.
PS: I just had a great tip from Sonia in New Zealand about this - to make sewing the ribbon easier:-- once you have turned the heel inside out with the lines visible, put a tennis ball under the heel, stick the ribbon with some glue on the lines as I showed you, and then sew as I showed you.

  • for my class we dont use point shoes but we have to have the leather. does this work with leather?

  • @MissCyraSun Hi- yes you can use this method for leather shoes- it does use a little more ribbon but does make it more secure leaving it in one whole piece.

  • Sorry, I missed this post- you can really put the elastic where you feel most supported by it. As long is the elastic isn't sewn at the back of your achilles tendon with a small loop, or anything that pulls on the achilles, you are ok. Some people like 2 pieces of elastic, some like one. Try always to get the fit of your shoe right so that you don't need the elastic though. In most cases, a shoe that is fitting well ands snugly should not need elastic. Sometimes it is unavoidable!

  • This is brilliant!!!! Thanks very much!!! xx

  • @RobertOliverHill thanks soo much

  • @mliaab thanks!

  • @ZeBombe it depends on where you want to place your elastics. are your elastic criss-crossed?? then you might want to place the front of the elastic on top of the ribbons and the other parts near the back of your heel. if you just have one band of elastic around the heel, just place it where you think feels good. hope this helped :)

  • I love this method, however, where do you stick the elastic once you've sown the ribbons there??
