What body are we using and performing lately to offer the glance of society, to guarantee a place in the stage of visibilities?

The culture of the body as body image and body message that speaks for a subject is in large part due to the mass media. The cult for the actual beauty has something of religious: non-acceptance of fatality rids, flaccidity, ageing. It is the body-image, that presents itself to the mirror of society, that settles ones happiness.

Starting of the myth of the misses or the top models, New Body works are circumscribed to social images, above all in what is concerned to the act of seeing and being seen.
I question and reflection the identity and the authenticity of the feminine body its power, its satisfaction, its perfection/imperfection, the beauty that shows itself, the one that hides itself its age its ageing.

I put three questions to women and men giving them the possibility to answer one by one or give a single answer that includes all three issues: - Taking in consideration your cultural patterns and the importance of image to a contemporary individual, how do you define a beautiful woman? - How long can a woman be beautiful? - How do you relate beauty and mask?

All the answers are literally included in the paintings, bringing to the picture the text/quotation, as evidence, text and image coexisting side-by-side.
Writing becomes a body, too. This, formed by a group of signs printed on the support, may work as a living organism. Keeping their autonomy, text and painting cohabit the same space and correspond themselves mutually, without neither uniting nor explaining themselves.

  • That was beautiful Martinho. What a talent you are, having such artful expressiveness! Cheers. André ☺

  • Provocative distortion of figures. I love the questions you put to the viewer, Martinho, and the relationship between text and image in each work (I wish I could see it up close in a gallery out here to get the full effect.) I am enjoying my subscription to your channel. 5*
