1993 Hawaii visit by the late Thomas Chapin, jazz artist, avantgard, free style jazz. Performance at the Hawaii Academy of Arts. wwwDOTthomaschapinDOTcom for more videos and information
Good to find his music here ! Remember seeing him the first time at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague/Netherlands in the 90's. He performed in the small Escher-room. Didn't know him, but I stayed until the end of the concert and I was there again the consecutive year ! I find his music very adventurous. You never know what is going to happen. It's sad that he passed away at such a young age.
I miss seeing this musician perform. Very sad to have lost this jewel in the crown of jazz music. A gentle soul who was transformed during his live performances on stage. I vividly recall Tom and his usual crew of creative conspirators: Mario Pavone on bass and Michael Sarin on drums cranking out their compositions at a fevered pace, to the joy of all present. Yes, I miss seeing this consummate musician perform on stage - but thankfully he left his recordings to move and stir us as before.
What a joy to 'hear' Thomas again. He was such a marvelous musician, and one of the most beautiful human beings I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Thanks..
Thomas. We still miss you!
