Mr. Brown is a native of Los Angeles, California and graduated from Crenshaw High School in 1972. He received a B.S. Degree in Consumer Economics and Public Policy in 1976, and a MBA degree in 1983, both from Cornell University in New York. In 1976 his professional career began in Europe as a basketball player in Leige, Belgium. Two seasons later he went on to serve as a Marketing Representative for Jacques Sports, Inc. in Hannut, Belgium until returning to the U.S. as a Special Assistant to the Executive Director of Fanon Research & Development Center at Charles R. Drew Medical School. In 1979, Mr. Brown co-founded NOUS Research & Development Mgmt. Institute, where he planned and managed the 1st International Scholars Conference on Economic Development in Underdeveloped Nations in Mogadishu, Somalia, Nairobi, Kenya; East Africa; and Cairo, Egypt. He received training in Finance and Banking at Union Bank in Los Angeles. In 1983, Mr. Brown co-founded Management Reserves Institute, Inc., and launched Metropolitan Distribution Company, the only African-American wholesale distributor of dairy products in Southern California. As CEO, he built sales volume to over 2 million dollars per year in just eighteen months. In 1989 he and his partners sold Metropolitan and invested in real estate and other small business ventures. He is currently a faculty member at Crenshaw High School, co-founding the Academy for Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at West Los Angeles College. As a teacher of economics and accounting he has been a mentor for many students and helped them gain scholarships from various Universities.

He has received numerous awards from community and professional organizations such as the National Black MBA Association, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, L.A.Unified School District and Cornell University among others. In 1997 Mr. Brown was named "Educator of the Year" by the Los Angeles Urban League. In 2001, Turning point magazine bestowed him with the Living History Maker Award in education. In 2002, Junior Achievement, Southern California and the Southern California Social Science Association honored him as "Teacher of the Year". He has been voted into Who's Who among American Teachers annually since 2003. In 2006 JA Worldwide selected him as the National "Teacher of the Year", and most recently, Jump$tart, CA named him "Outstanding Educator of the Year". In 2008 he was selected to serve as a member of the Aspen Institute's National Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy Group. In 2009 the Los Angeles Urban League honored him with their distinguished Community Service Award. Mr. Brown currently serves on the board of directors for Junior Achievement, Southern California; Jump$tart, CA; and The Advisory Board of The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Los Angeles region. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Imani. His daughter, Destini is a recent graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans, La.
