I'd like to make two points. One, if you asked Mike Stern, Andy Timmons, etc if Vai or Satriani weren't any good they'd laugh at the assersion. Two, I have to agree that Vai and Satch (like so many others) limit their sound. After finding success with "their" style/sound it becomes part of their identity to the listener. Look at the names in the post below, you can identify almost everyone of them quickly if you're familar with their work.

@Neueregel Tbh I like everything, but you know I listen more to e-guitarists that doesn't play the same sound over and over you know ? Malmsteen, Vai and those you can recognize in the first 5 sec of the song unlike others, so thats why i lost interest in them

@Lee0Samaa Mike Stern is very good, the same with Buckethead , Santana or Tony McAlpine. Satriani, Malmsteem and Vai are Popular , maybe repetitive at times, but ultimately it depends on genre you like to listen in the first place.

@Neueregel Vai and Satriani are not good man, they play the same sound every single time. Good e-guitar players are : Mike Stern, Andy Timmons, Lee Ritenour, Greg Howe and people like that

@Lee0Samaa Not sure. Al is reportedly the best acoustic player in the world, but in electric guitar I doubt if he is as experienced or good as other electic guitar players as Vai, Satriani, or Petrucci.
