A Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) InterCity Gillig Phantom #492 departing Meadowood Mall Transit Center in Reno, Nevada to the National Bowling Stadium at 4th and Center streets in Downtown Reno (Near the RTC CitiCenter Transit Center).

Engine: Cummins ISM
Transmission: Allison B400R
Year Manufactured: 2005
Length: 40 feet long
Width: 102 inches wide
HVAC System: Thermo King

Recorded using Hewlett-Packard (HP) PhotoSmart R727 6.2 Megapixel Digital Camera

Sorry about the flicker with the red LED trailing lights and the rear destination display. It must be the frame rate of my camera (24 frames per second like motion picture cameras).

  • can i ask a question why does golden empire transit buses not make a rattling idle sound? is it because of cng fuel compared to diesel they have the new flyer and 2 orion models

  • Depends on when I will ride the RTC InterCity express route again.

All three Gillig Phantom buses (492, 493 and 494) were built in 2005 (3 years before the Hayward, CA-based bus builder discontinued it).

It was a good thing that the Washoe County RTC bought three of them when they did.

  • Doesn't sound like the Cummins ISL to me.

    I've checked with a mechanic.

    It's definitely Cummins ISM.

The ISL is used on the low floor buses used by Washoe County RTC.

  • From the idling sound, it's definitely a Cummins ISL.

  • OH OK

  • It's the frame rate of my digital camera's video recording mode (24 frames per second).

Nothing wrong with the bus itself.
