The music was written by French composer Charles Trenet in 1946 and was entitled "La Mer" (French for The Sea). English lyrics were written later by Jack Larence who added the word "Beyond" to the title giving the song a different meaning than was originally intended by Trenet (his French lyrics related to the changing moods of the sea). Earl Grant admired Nat King Cole, not only for his vocal style but his keyboard playing as well. This is one of the better instrumental versions of "Beyond The Sea" you're ever going to hear performed in much the same way Nat would probably have played it (but he oddly never did).
As my folks use to say: EG could really whip the Hammond Organ!

Awesome! thanks! Had Earl not died at such a young age, he would have been better well known. What a talent!
